FOSSICKING

Fossicking is what you do here in Australia to find your own Gemstones.

It is hard work, but the rewards are great.

We have many Garnets and Zircons which we have found and had cut here in Alice Springs by what we consider one of the best companies around here.  The name of the company is "Outback Gems".  You walk in with what you have found and Jenny will take a quick look through her special eyes and let you know if there are cracks or if they are any good.

The biggest one that we have had Jenny's husband cut was a Zircon and was cut to 3.8 .  It's really beautiful and hopefully we will be able to show you just how pretty it is.

This picture is of the first time we went fossicking.  This is a friend of ours named Brian.  The buckets were already there, he is on the other side.

This is what the fields look like.  Nothing but rocks, gems, sticker bushes and of course red dirt so make sure you have your hikers on!

Doug setting up for lunch.  Yep make sure you bring something to eat and drink.  It is very hot here and you really need to pay attention to your bodies' needs.  DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.
